...the latest production Atheus Soundscapes and Drones, which appeared on Swedish label Ghost Sounds. What's this album? Exactly as indicated by its title and cover with the exception that it is 100 times better. Serge Collin serves us more than an hour feast of exquisite ambient, dub-drone and techno (unless this is just the least), creating incredible, infinite even spaces. If someone can create the sounds of infinity, then it's surely Atheus. This album is the vastness and peace of mind, I think that listening to this album among the snow-capped peaks and meadows would be almost a mystical experience.
CHAOS AND INFINITY
This ambient LP, released fall 2009 on the Swedish label Ghost Sounds, is a pure beauty. Those nine astonishing soundscapes will keep you lying down on your couch and will make you feel like you are floating into intergalactic space at lightspeed.
This is not the usual "new age" CD specially engineered for relaxation. No bullshit involved here, this album is a lot more than that ! It is more like a true piece of modern art created with heart, love, hate and sweat. You will find intensity and subtility, drama and tranquility, graininess and plasticity, repetition and variety. All those forces fighting each others are creating a tedious equilibrium, this is what makes this album so unique for a drone-like release - which could be so boring (I won't name names).
Each track has its own character. I can't help but think of planets, always very different ones ; I am orbiting around them, "listening" to the sound of their magnetic fields... I didn't felt so lyrically inspired by ambient music since Tangerine Dream's Phaedra and Rubicon albums.
Serge "Atheus" Collin lives in Montreal, he already has some consequent releases in his book. I read somewhere he worked on Soundscapes and Drones' material for more than two years. He earned his master of synthesis reputation on labels like Millions of Moments, Styrax Records or Metrolux.
This LP is available both in CD and digital formats and let me tell you : this is a must buy.
"Pillars Of The Earth And Sky"
**Deluxe hardback trifold digipak** Anders Peterson and Atheus, the rarified producer/engineers behind Ghost Sounds, collect eight sublime moments of dub and ambient techno on CD for the 1st time, including two previously unreleased tracks. Serge presents two original productions as Atheus; easing us in with the ultra-wide, subbass-cushioned flow of 'The Magic Mountain' beside the hazy, reverberant Dub House space of 'Stratagem', and later remixing A.P's 'Garden Therapy' as an opulent eighteen minutes of beatless, opiated ambience, and also contributing the Deathprod-esque title track. In contrast to Serge's stark minimalism, the aesthetic of designer, composer and Ghost Sounds CEO Anders Peterson is arguably more lush and melodically fragrant. He introduces himself with the delicately tactile dub of 'Desert Rainfall' and slow-motion heave of 'Landmark' as Relapxych.00, while the impressionistic, Muslimgauze-like sound-scaping of 'Garden Therapy' and the decaying ten minute Techno delicacy 'Atmospheric Stratification' sign his sound with a deeply etheric, elemental watermark.

"Unique all Ambient & Drones release from one of the best Minimal Dub project around."
Atheus almost nine minute abstract, ambient mixout, Adagio for Drone, which on full, concentrated listening is actually pretty dark, managing to poke into those exposed corners of the subconscious with only the smallest shift in tone, quite ingenious. The project as a whole may not necessarily be the easy listening experience that you might be excused for having preconceived, but its certainly persuasive enough in compelling the attention required to extract the most from the concept. So, sit back, turn up the bass dial and more importantly, play this one very loud, sink back, maybe pretend your sofa is one giant marshmallow… and thoroughly enjoy this ambient feast! Finally, without trying to sound like over-hype, or anything sinister like that, you may note below just how limited this release is, so if you fancy a copy, I would strongly suggest not to delay.
...stunning full-length album from Atheus, I have been looking forward to this release ever since the first tentative audio samples appeared via myspace what must be more than twelve months ago now. So here it is, arrived only today and I have played this album through from start to finish three times already, it really is that good. Mysterious, intrusive, threatening ambience, almost drone-like in parts, and sounds totally amazing when adjusted correctly and played very, very loud. Thoroughly mesmerising, I can whole-heartedly say this is one of the most outstanding albums of year and certainly in my top three! Breathtaking.
Atheus / Relapxych.0 - Shapes / Phases
Deeper dub techno and blue ambience from Atheus and newcomer Relapxych.0. Atheus has provided a small but killer catalogue of dub techno with a defined dancefloor edge for MoM and Styrax, and comes to this plate with two gorgeous tracks, one showing his heavy subs driven style on 'Strategem' with a neat Maurizio tribute and one delving deeper into the dub techno ether on 'The Magic Mountain' for the more reflective dub techno types. Relapxych.0's style edges further from the dancefloor with two Gas styled efforts, running a thick pulse of subbass through 'Landmark' with densely layered atmospherics, or incorporating thrummed guitars, strings and sonorous synths into a meditative mass on 'Desert Nightfall'. Fans of Wolfgang Voigt, Deepchord or Sven Weisemann should check this without delay - Highly Recommended,
Abstract ambient drones, perfect to play on your ipod when you're lost somewhere above the timber line.
Great deep dark-ambiant album haunted by strange noises & gargoyles. Incl. Drone 37Hz. 8/10
Highly anticipated release from one of my favorite artists and it doesn't get much deeper.
...deep ambient night drones from Canada, electronic & at times dubby, on the label of ANDERS PETERSON (OBJEKT4, RELAPXYCH.0)...
