...the latest production Atheus Soundscapes and Drones, which appeared on Swedish label Ghost Sounds. What's this album? Exactly as indicated by its title and cover with the exception that it is 100 times better. Serge Collin serves us more than an hour feast of exquisite ambient, dub-drone and techno (unless this is just the least), creating incredible, infinite even spaces. If someone can create the sounds of infinity, then it's surely Atheus. This album is the vastness and peace of mind, I think that listening to this album among the snow-capped peaks and meadows would be almost a mystical experience.
CHAOS AND INFINITY
This ambient LP, released fall 2009 on the Swedish label Ghost Sounds, is a pure beauty. Those nine astonishing soundscapes will keep you lying down on your couch and will make you feel like you are floating into intergalactic space at lightspeed.
This is not the usual "new age" CD specially engineered for relaxation. No bullshit involved here, this album is a lot more than that ! It is more like a true piece of modern art created with heart, love, hate and sweat. You will find intensity and subtility, drama and tranquility, graininess and plasticity, repetition and variety. All those forces fighting each others are creating a tedious equilibrium, this is what makes this album so unique for a drone-like release - which could be so boring (I won't name names).
Each track has its own character. I can't help but think of planets, always very different ones ; I am orbiting around them, "listening" to the sound of their magnetic fields... I didn't felt so lyrically inspired by ambient music since Tangerine Dream's Phaedra and Rubicon albums.
Serge "Atheus" Collin lives in Montreal, he already has some consequent releases in his book. I read somewhere he worked on Soundscapes and Drones' material for more than two years. He earned his master of synthesis reputation on labels like Millions of Moments, Styrax Records or Metrolux.
This LP is available both in CD and digital formats and let me tell you : this is a must buy.

INTERSTELLARSOUNDS
Atheus almost nine minute abstract, ambient mixout, Adagio for Drone, which on full, concentrated listening is actually pretty dark, managing to poke into those exposed corners of the subconscious with only the smallest shift in tone, quite ingenious. The project as a whole may not necessarily be the easy listening experience that you might be excused for having preconceived, but its certainly persuasive enough in compelling the attention required to extract the most from the concept. So, sit back, turn up the bass dial and more importantly, play this one very loud, sink back, maybe pretend your sofa is one giant marshmallow… and thoroughly enjoy this ambient feast! Finally, without trying to sound like over-hype, or anything sinister like that, you may note below just how limited this release is, so if you fancy a copy, I would strongly suggest not to delay.

...stunning full-length album from Atheus, I have been looking forward to this release ever since the first tentative audio samples appeared via myspace what must be more than twelve months ago now. So here it is, arrived only today and I have played this album through from start to finish three times already, it really is that good. Mysterious, intrusive, threatening ambience, almost drone-like in parts, and sounds totally amazing when adjusted correctly and played very, very loud. Thoroughly mesmerising, I can whole-heartedly say this is one of the most outstanding albums of year and certainly in my top three! Breathtaking.

Attention, l’écoute de ce disque requiert une attention totale. Pas le genre à se laisser appréhender si vous passez l’aspirateur en même temps, ou cherchez la dernière application Facebook qui fera fureur auprès de vos “amis”. Certes il faut aimer le style dark-ambiant, assez peu populaire j’ai cru constater chez nous. Mais il n’est jamais trop tard pour découvrir et apprécier des genres différents (n’êtes-vous pas en train de consulter ce site pour cela ?). Ensuite il faut se laisser habiter (posséder ?) par les nappes grises de ce disque et le charme sombre vous hanter. Prenez le temps d’essayer, vous remercierez peut-être notre cousin québecquois Serge Collin aka Atheus, artiste déjà très estimé dans la sphère dub-techno, ayant dispersé ses oeuvres sur Styrax, Millions of Moments, Echospace, Metrolux, ou encore Shoreless, le label de Quantec.
